MEXICO CITY – At least five people were killed Tuesday when the small plane they were aboard crashed on a major Mexican highway, according to officials.
The plane was conducting a test flight when it crashed shortly after takeoff from Queretaro Intercontinental Airport in the state of Queretaro, about 200 kilometers (124 miles) north of the capital, Mexico City.
“The causes of the accident remains unknown,” said the minister of communications and transportation in a release.
The Mexico-Queretaro highway – one of the most important in the region as it connects the capital of Mexico City with the central Mexican state – was closed to traffic heading toward Queretaro “for security matters and to facilitate the investigation” officials said.
