The 20+ years cartoon show that bears the family’s name, Simpsons did something that seems nearly impossible to do. 16 years ago, the sketchy animated show that is known for addressing all issues in the world, gave away the 2016 presidential winner. Once it was all said and done, the Sunday that followed the election results, showed the Simpsons response to the winner.
A familiar intro to every show is a scene where Bart Simpson is staying after school, constantly writing a sentence as his punishment. Every single episode had a different sentence. Sometimes, it had something to do with what may have been going on in the world, and sometimes, it was just humorous. This Sunday, The Simpsons were indirectly apologizing for who the next president would be. As the scene zooms in to see what Bart is writing, this Sunday, the sentence said, “Being right sucks!” Out of anger, Bart drops the chalk and takes off running out of school.
We go back 4 presidential elections to see why. In the year 2000, there was an episode of the Simpsons that had Donald Trump as a guest on the show. The episode had Lisa Simpson playing as the America’s first female president (Clinton?). At the same time, Bart had wasted his life away. But, he was able to give her a solution that she didn’t understand at the time. As Lisa spoke from the office, she said, “As you know, we’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump.”
The episode was about Bart saving Lisa Simpson’s election. One of the most eerie parts to the show was the scenes that looked identical to real-life events. When put side-by-side, you would think that the artists for the Simpsons copied them. This includes the elevator scene and the scene where Trump is at the podium.
