-Bayern Munich smash Arsenal 5-1 in Champions League

ANKARA – Germany’s Bayern Munich hammered English Premier League club Arsenal 5-1 in the Champions League group match at Allianz Arena in Munich late Wednesday.

Bayern won thanks to goals scored by Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, Austrian defender David Alaba, Dutch winger Arjen Robben and German forward Thomas Muller finding the net twice.

French striker Olivier Giroud scored for Arsenal.

Bayern Munich lead Group F with nine points, second-place Greece’s Olympiacos have the same amount of points. Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb are third with three points and Arsenal find themselves in last place, with three points.

The dramatic defeat in Munich all but shattered Arsenal’s hopes of the reaching the competition’s Round of 16.

Meanwhile Group H leader Zenit Saint Petersburg advanced to the last 16 defeating French team Olympique Lyon 2-0 in France. Russian striker Artem Dzyuba scored twice.
