Greece will default on its obligations to IMF as referendum looms
ANKARA – Greece will not be able to make a $2 billion debt payment to the International Monetary Fund due on Tuesday, a Greek government official said late Monday.
The Greek default will make the country ineligible for further aid from the IMF.
However, the default could be temporary. A referendum in Greece on Sunday will determine whether the country remains in arrears to the IMF or can unlock the next $8.2 billion bailout payment.
