Qoyllur Rit’i festival in Peru

Pilgrims walk on their way to participate in the Qoyllur Rit’i religious festival, more than 1000 kms southeast from Lima, Peru on June 2, 2015. Quyllur Rit’i or Star Snow Festival is a spiritual and religious festival held annually at the Sinakara Valley in the Cusco Region of Peru. Groups of Quero indigenous people climb Ausangate Mountain, at 6362m, in search of the Snow Star which is reputedly buried within the mountain. The foreigners are not allowed to participate in this climb, according to the Indians, this may offend Apu Ausangate.
