Ronaldo accused of Tax Evasion

2017 has so far been a great year for Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo as he led Real Madrid to the La Liga title and they also retained the UEFA Champions League title.

But he will definitely not be happy with reports from Spain as he has been accused of defrauding the Spanish government of millions of euros in unpaid tax.

The accusation was made known by the tax prosecutor’s office in Madrid as they revealed that a lawsuit has been filed against Cristiano Ronaldo for evading tax payment to the tune of 14.7 million euros between from 2011 to 2014.

Ronaldo, who is currently the highest-paid footballer and sportsman had earlier stated that he is not bothered about the tax evasion investigation because his dealings are clear.

However, he is being accused of purposely setting up some form of “business structure” that made it easier for him to conceal the income that he earned from his image right deals.
Last year, documents related to his tax evasion issues was leaked to the press and it allegedly showed that he offshore accounts that were used to evade paying taxes.

I am innocent – Ronaldo

When Cristiano Ronaldo was asked questions related to the investigation by a journalist from a media house in Portugal. He had this to say “I have absolutely nothing to hide or fear because my hands are clean.”

The amount being stated by the tax office will not be too much for Ronaldo if he is convicted of the crime as according to Forbes, Ronaldo made 93 million pounds from the endorsement, bonuses and his basic salary.

There are also reports of a bid from the Chinese Super League but it is believed that Ronaldo will stay put at Real Madrid as he still at the peak of his career.
