A suspected Al-Qaeda militant was killed Sunday in a drone attack on his car in the southern Yemeni province of Shabwah, a local official has said.
According to the official, the suspected militant was driving his car in central Ataq town, capital of Shabwah, when it was targeted by the drone.
The attack came after a similar strike left three suspected Al-Qaeda members dead in the same province on Friday.
American drones have been staging attacks against positions of Al-Qaeda in southern Yemen for several years now.
Yemen has been in turmoil since 2011 when a popular uprising forced autocratic President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down a year later.
Since March 25, Saudi Arabia and several other Arab allies started pounding positions of the Shiite Houthi group.
Saudi Arabia and its Gulf neighbors believe that the Houthi insurgency is backed by Shiite Iran.
