Military vehicle comes under attack in central Kagithane district

ISTANBUL – Two Turkish soldiers were slightly wounded when a military vehicle came under attack in Istanbul’s central district of Kagithane, police said Friday.
An unidentified number of assailants fired at the vehicle from an overpass as a gendarmerie vehicle was driving through the Nurtepe Viaduct, the sources said.
A non-commissioned officer suffered injuries to the back, the shoulder and behind the ear from the broken glass and ricocheting pieces of bullets that hit the vehicle, while another officer was wounded in the knee, they said.
Both were taken to Okmeydani Hospital and are to be transferred to a military hospital, they added.
According to initial reports, the attack was carried out with Kalashnikovs, and around 20 bullets hit the vehicle.
The police have launched an investigation to find the assailants who fled the scene.
