UPDATE TO ANOTHER ATTACK IN CIZRE DISTRICT
ANKARA – One soldier has been martyred and four others have been injured in a rocket attack in southeastern Turkey on Friday.
The incident occurred at 12.00 p.m. local time [10:00GMT] in Cizre district of Sirnak province as PKK terrorists targeted soldiers during an anti-terror operation, according to a statement of the Turkish General Staff.
One soldier died at the hospital while the others, who are not in critical condition, have been receiving treatment, the statement added.
The attack came one day after another security official, a police officer, was also martyred and five others injured during the counter-terrorism operation in Sirnak province.
Security forces have conducted anti-terror operations to remove terror organization PKK’s trenches and barricades in the Cizre district.
The PKK – considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July.
A total of 240 PKK terrorists have been killed in counter-terrorism operations in southeastern Turkey since Dec. 15, according to the Turkish General Staff.
According to a statement on Turkish Armed Forces’ official website, most of the casualties took place in the Cizre and Silopi districts of Sirnak province and in Diyarbakir’s Sur district.
Out of the 228 terrorists, 173 were killed in Cizre and 22 others in Silopi, while 45 more were killed in Sur.
