Women With Brain Tumor Detained From Texas Hospital and Taken to Immigrant Detention Center

A woman suffering from a tumor in her brain was taken from a Texas hospital by immigration officers who returned her to an immigration detention center, according to her lawyers

Sara, 26 years old, from El Saldavor, had reportedly gone into custody after officals said she is not lawfully allowed to be in the United States after she had been diagnosed with cancer.

Hardships and Fears

“She’s complaining of a lot of pain,” said Zuniga, including that she was barred from contacting her lawyers and family.

Sara had begun complaining of headaches when she was detained at Prairieland Detention Center located close to Dallas, Texas. She collapsed at the center on February 10th.

She was then brought to Texas Health Huguley Hospital, and doctors prepared to begin operating. The New York Daily News reported that she had been discharged a night before her surgery was due to take place.

Safety Worries

Zuniga also mentioned that the situation was a “nightmare” for everyone involved, especially her relatives, who have continuously called authorities out of fear for anything happening to her.

A US Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson said to the publication that it “takes seriously the health, safety and welfare of those in our care.“

“Like all detainees in our care, [Sara] will continue to have access to 24 hour emergency medical care and to any required specialized treatment at an outside facility,” a statement by the department wrote.

Sara’s testimony in court states she had entered the United States illegally on November of 2015. She was arrested shortly after by agents patrolling the border, said the Daily Beast

A judge previously ordered her to be deported after missing her deadline to file claims for asylum, which her lawyers have already appealed.
